Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud
Microsoft has been increasingly moving Windows to the cloud on the commercial side with Windows 365, but the software giant also wants to do the same for consumers. In an internal “state of the business” Microsoft presentation from June 2022, Microsoft discuses building on “Windows 365 to enable a full Windows operating system streamed from the cloud to any device.”
The presentation has been revealed as part of the ongoing FTC v. Microsoft hearing, as it includes Microsoft’s overall gaming strategy and how that relates to other parts of the company’s businesses. Moving “Windows 11 increasingly to the cloud” is identified as a long-term opportunity in Microsoft’s “Modern Life” consumer space, including using “the power of the cloud and client to enable improved AI-powered services and full roaming of people’s digital experience.”

If you only knew how many times in the last 25 years I decided I was finally sick of Windows and then was reminded that GNU++Linux desktop distros are all made by antisocial sickos who want to hurt people but don't have the guts to become serial killers.

You don't, because windows doesn't just spontaneously break like Linux does. Literally just don't frick with it for no reason and it's fine. Only time I crashed is when I tried using a different PC's floppy drive as a page file over shit connection like a decade ago

I’ve had plenty of weird bugs on Linux but at least I could debug them. I have Windows guys just laugh and tell me to re-install entirely at the simplest of bugs.

Works on my machine. Never had an issue that wasn't my fault. Debugging is easy.

You google the error, edit the registry, frick around with services.msc for some reason, and finally reset your windows installation to defaults.

fr, windows is insane. i got my work pc with onedrive enabled, and for some reason all my folders are duplicated. i download a file, open the "Download" folder and it's empty. then i go to C:/Users/name/Downloads and it's a completely different folder that actually has my file.
i had multiple times starting up my pc and seeing no task bar. have to restart with the physical button.
so many interactions are slow as shit. the hardware is not bad and the applications themselves run great, but for some reason opening the start menu takes 3 seconds. opening the calculator instantly pops up a white window, but it takes 10 seconds for the buttons to appear. menu navigation is completely fricked up, sometimes you press the back button and it brings you somewhere else that you expected
literally what the frick, i talk to other people and they tell me that's normal.
my home linux pc does not have cool animations but it also just works

Yeah, with a conventional desktop platform I expect things to break so I have a better time using a platform that lets me debug things.
Something that is way more stable would be iOS/iPadOS, Android and Chromebooks and most normies would do wayyy better with them.

Realistically, if that happened, I'd start browsing on a potato for Linux if I had to. Or hope Proton keeps at it.

Proton unironically got me to buy games again. So nice to just have things work, plus shader sharing makes it pretty great.

Apple has even worse telemetry and 'cloud integration' than Windows. If you want to see how Windows will look like in 5 years from now, get Apple.
