I don't see a problem. Ask them politely to stop wasting your bandwidth, when they refuse block them--and suddenly it's 100% their problem and they have an epic headache because they are harassed by their dependencies and contributors complaining that nothing even builds any more. So then they are forced to add some sensible cashing/mirroring and beg you to unblock them.

I just don't see why they play the victim and blame Microsoft (for some reason, when FFmpreg was the culprit) when they hold all the cards. I guess it's some of the old pimple eyed open sores fanatics fighting the Man since the nineties lmao.

Well, it's not so much ffmpeg's fault as the many ffmpeg forks automatically pulling in ffmpeg's ci settings. Really, the way CI systems tend to be designed is fricking insane - why are we literally redownloading all our dependencies, including basic os components, from scratch every time we do a ci run? Why not just cache the vm image at the stage immediately before installing the software under test? But, it works so I don't complain about it.

They tell you to cache the dependencies but most devops engineers are r-slurred bros who just chase fads. They read FAANG engineer blog posts to maxx their career but completely lack foundational knowledge and the intelligence to understand whats going on.

This is causing a lot of small issues in the long run including gatekeeping the industry by filtering out competent tech guys in favor of their bro/hipster clones.

Well dependencies can change between ci runs. Though I guess there can be a check prior to that to see if dependencies have changed and only redownload if there is a change.

And I guess it's to ensure that access to those dependencies is still available. If a dependency suddenly becomes unavailable you would definitely like to know. But then again that could just be another workflow.

Yeah, what you need is a distinction between a "fast" run that happens on every commit and a "full" run that regenerates the cached images and happens on a dependency change or when preparing for a release.

There are but most devops and software engineers r-slurred and pull foreign dependencies constantly. You are r-slurred if you don't have a local cache.

Don't look at a website's JavaScript locations because many are pulling from elsewhere which means they'll break if those go down.

Why are the dependencies not locally hosted and version locked if you depend on it is the real question here

Yeah the field sometimes attracts people so neurodivergent they can't even attempt to troubleshoot a problem with a social conponent. They just start screaming.

>The following day, Mike Blacker, director of threat hunting, operations, and response at Microsoft's GitHub, had identified the culprit: a GitHub Actions Workflow that clones a Mercurial repo and has been forked more than 700 of times.

>"Microsoft and GitHub have investigated the issue and determined that a GitHub user updated a script within the FFmpeg-Builds project that pulled content from gmplib.org," explained Blacker.

Seems like an honest mistake, then. GitHub has had these little hiccups.

Only took me a few days into subbing to get my Andrew Tate moment.

It was math class and there was an eruption of talk about this 'entertainer'.

I stopped the whole class, moved quickly to the front and stood on a chair.

'Some things are more important than math, and I love math. But this is a learning emergency. Everyone. EVERYONE.

Who has heard of Andrew Tate? (all hands) Who thinks he's great? (1/2)

That's what I thought. Let me tell you something about this person you think is so great and make jokes about. He hurts people. Badly and in one of the worst ways. He enslaves humans. Young humans. He moved for easier victimization of teenagers who are still children. Takes away their humanity and rights over their own body. And he's in jail for now, but the way he hurt his victims will change their brain, their body, and their lives. I meet people in the ER who have been hurt in the way he thinks is funny and ok. None of this is funny and it is NEVER ok. I see the wreckage. I wake up to FIGHT the very evil that he puts in this world.

Math is important, but this is more important. I'm giving you a choice right now so listen up. Your heroes are YOUR choice. But know what you are choosing. And if you grow up continuing to idolize and emulate people like him, that's your choice. But know this. I'll still be out there and I will be fighting you. In courtrooms, police stations, and classrooms.

I will never be done fighting for ALL of you. I will never give up fighting for you and your world. You are young. You decide. You have time. You can change your mind a thousand times.

Either way, I'll be waking up and I WILL be there.'

So put the package in a repo of some bigdick opensource company like Ubuntu and direct people to download it from there? There's pretty much no reason you'd host your own package files if you're a small project.
