A curated list of uBlock origin filters | Hacker News

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36585371

uBlock Origin is one of the first extensions I add to a browser. I think some of the letsblock.it templates are great and went ahead and added them to filter Google and Youtube results.

Does anyone else have suggestions for other repositories or lists for uBlock or general tips? I have never really researched this, I just use the built in Filter-Lists and block things as they annoy me.

Someone should make a post on plebbit: My boyfriend is using AI to make a filter that blocks images of overweight people on the Internet and replaces them with pictures mocking people of size. Is this a red flag?

! supposedly makes google search results better

www.google.*###rcnt > div:first-of-type:not([id]) > div:has(g-more-link,g-scrolling-carousel,g-img)

www.google.*###rso:has(> div:nth-of-type(6)) > div:has(g-more-link,g-section-with-header)

www.google.*###rso:has(> div:nth-of-type(6)) > div:has(div[role="heading"]+g-scrolling-carousel)

www.google.*###kp-wp-tab-overview > div:has(g-more-link,g-section-with-header,#media_result_group)

www.google.*###rso:has(> div:nth-of-type(6)) > div:has(div.related-question-pair)

www.google.*###kp-wp-tab-overview > div:has(div.related-question-pair)

www.google.*###botstuff #bres

www.google.*###rso div.g div[jscontroller][id^="eob_"]

www.google.*##div.isv-r[data-rfg]

This shit breaks gmail unless you don't want search results when typing someone's name to email.

I just use the lists it comes with and filter as I go.

lol, I haven't messed with the settings in years, and it looks like 14 of the premade lists are now in Custom instead of their original spots.

get a raspberry pi or something connected to ethernet on your network all the time. Install adguard home on it, this is like ublock origin for your network and your templates work the same. go over to cloudflare zero trust and set up a dns server. use letsencrypt to set up certificates to encrypt your dns. now you can block things from ever touching your network. Probably need a hardware firewall like opnsense and just have all your devices vpn to that all the time so everything is always protected from ads and intruders and makes you harder to track

I've had a similar experience for the most part but uBlock is a pretty powerful tool so I don't mind learning advanced features in case I find something useful. An example of one thing that I learned today: I have been annoyed by a specific sites that google suggests (but I find useless) and its nice to be able to block them from search results.
