[Rant] Does anyone else feel like were witnessing an end of an era of the current Web 2.0 internet?

With the rise of AI, the enshittification of social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit, YouTube cracking down on ad blockers and filled with more clickbait than ever, Twitter rate limits, Reddit killing off 3rd party apps, and Google becoming a shit search engine, it looks like were witnessing in real-time the end of the current era of the internet, and soon the start of a new era. I think we will witness the rise of new social media platforms and the fall of older ones like Twitter and Reddit within the next 1-3 years. What do you think comes next?

Kinda, I also feel like everything is moving onto closed platforms that cannot be accessed by search engines. Imageboard culture is still alive and well albeit and the web will never be monopolised by the big corpos even if they will control 95% of all the traffic.

I would say if any era ended it was in the early 2000's when corporation's consolidated everything onto "Social Media". What you're seeing now is continuing to streamline normal every day people into a UI that monitors every aspect of our lives. The further into centralizing we get the more corporations will try to monetize it.

The only good thing currently happening is that you can still start your own web sites. Getting people to leave the walled garden of social media to come to your web site is questionable.

It feels that way but it’s hard to tell what’s replacing it. I’ll be convinced of Web 2.0’s end when more youtube competitors show up.

Time is a flat circle. Corporatization and centralization of the internet reminds me a lot of how phreakers talked about Bell owning all the telephone infra. Normies will stick to social media but weirdos and spergs will find ways to persevere
