PS5 supports 20gbs through its thunderbolt. And internal there is 4tb limit so Sony deliberately made those limits to sell ps5 pro

Will test if regular ps4 games plays on it faster than regular 2,5 external ssd and hdd.

Bruv you can’t play PS5 games externally regardless.

That USB-C is not Thunderbolt it’s SuperSpeed USB, that’s still only 10Gb/s, PCIe (NVMe) bottlenecks roughly around 64Gb/s (note the small b for Bits not Bytes).

Sony deliberately made those limits to sell ps5 pro

You can play on any gen4 ssd no matter :marseyblm: its speed. I can bet 100 buxs when ps5 games :marseylegioncommander: will be bootable on jailbroken ps5 you’ll easily be able to play ps5 games :marseygamer: on regular :marseyregular: 500mbs ssd and the difference will be minimal compared to 5000mbs ssd.

Same shit already happened with ps3 where :marseydrama: it has USB2.0 and the hdd is faster than USB but on jailbroken ps3 you barely will notice :marseyattentionseeker: differences.

I don’t think you understand the concept of consoles.

They state: “Hey this the exact specification of our console, target this and you’ll always get X performance”.

Because they plan to last nearly a decade they will _overspec_ the console at launch, often to the point of losing money per unit, but then as the economy of scale works the components become cheaper and they eventually turn a profit. Overspeccing the console also helps that increased life time.

Is a slow PCIe 3.0 drive good enough for a simple game? Yes. Will it be good enough for a AAA game in 2027? No, that’s why they made the baseline high _now_.

That’s not how modern :marseywarhol: consoles are sadly.

Ff16 already owning ps5’s, in graphical mode and that’s like 1440p and performance mode is sub 1080 and often 720p.

This gen was supposedly 4k gen and 60 fps and there  are barely any native :marseyjaguarwarrior: 4k games. And MS created :marseyspaceghost2: a next gen console :marseyangrygamer: on par with xbox one x.

A ssd won’t improve performance in games, it’s just the new power :marseychaosemerald: of cloud :marseysunwukong: thing

If game devs can’t make good games with the specs of current gen consoles that just reflects poorly on the devs. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the current specifications of consoles, besides the selling 4K native rendering when it’s mostly creative upscaling.

Is your opinion honestly that SONY gaslighted g*mers into wanting SSDs and not sticking it out with HDDs for another decade-ish?

Sony was unreal hyping that ssd like they told its controller is so magical that ps5 games will weight less than ps4 games so it’s tiny 600gb ssd size won’t be a problem. Horizon 2 on ps4 is 40gb and on ps5 120gb. It would reduce the need to duplicate assets. Sony was also promoting it also like it will almost replace ram. Then did a whole show with “unlocking” ssd port: https://www.engadget.com/sony-ps-5-ssd-storage-expansion-firmware-update-ps4-remote-play-135032853.html

They told ratchet and clank is only possible on ps5 because supper ssd when in reality the game was developed for ps4 and only on late stage switched to being ps5 exlusive that can run now on hdd on pc.

Today Sony barely mention that magical ssd.

Also games won’t look better no matter what hardware you give devs, modern devs will stop at good enough, optimization don’t exist anymore

I’m not sure what the alternative was?

Let the consoles be stuck on HDDs for a decade which is clearly awful, or use SATA SSDs which was bottlenecking flash ages ago? You don’t even pay a price premium for NVMe anymore.

I don’t think it’s nonsensical to overprovision console hardware in this way when it’s clear they will last 7+ years.

if they had included a Thunderbolt 4 port I’d see some argument as it’s more in line with NVMe speeds (it’s also PCIe at its core) however they are still somewhat cost optimized and a Thunderbolt controller isn’t exactly a cheap addition.
