That's how it goes. Remember when that worm btfo like half the businesses in the US because people had been clicking 'update later' on the security fix for literally years?

reminds me of something that gives me a case of the butt unironcially IRL. my company uses Gusto to manage payroll. Also at the top of the screen one time it gave me an "update your browser, noupdatecel!" message. I clicked because my shit is ok old fair enough . . . it was a phishing scam.

wait this is interesting. I had a client use Gusto but he dropped it. Was the phishing message in the Gusto web page screen? He was a penetration tester so maybe that's why he dropped Gusto. When did this happen? I wondered why he dropped Gusto after so many years working with them.

I forget, it was a while back, it came from a banner above the page. Maybe it was the in-app advertisements that finally got to him. Or the useless 2FA that can be done on the same device used to login, which you have to do 4 times a day

ha ok. This was a while ago. I only logged into it once a year for my total earned for taxes. Getting a phishing link into the page is neat (I assume persistent XSS?) Maybe it has a CVE I can look up.

Everything in computers is on top of some busted old C language shit

This isn't even a fault with C, you could use less-optimized implementations of those functions and they'd be safe
