I feel like a newbie who watches Luke Smith videos or uses GraphineOS just has a strange threat model to me.

I simply don’t think the desktop paradigm serves most normies well to begin with but especially with windows straight up putting adware on base install.

There’s an excellent security case to be made for iOS and Apple devices and I say this as a lifelong Linux guy.

But if you get all your tech opinions from maladjusted high schoolers on /g/ I guess it makes some sense?

/g/ has created a lot of r-slurs who think LISP is a benchmark for hiring a software engineer.

The Luke Smith stans are pretty cringy as well if you've seen them.

not really. iOS and MacOS have superior sandboxing, but this is because the apps are malware.

Designing with proper capabilities in mind from the start clearly has benefits vs. slapping on workarounds to models that never considered a hostile world.

capabilities have long been an inadequate model

really the main benefit of iOS is that they actually review the apps coming into the app store and checks if capabilities are being observed

The way iOS sandboxes every part of their OS has long been better than Android, but Android has caught up.

Also GrapheneOS is useful because it's testing the limits of security on Android and those ideas get cycled back in. Even if you don't use it.
