Does that X200 still serve you well? When I used one seven years ago it was showing its age even then. Solid laptop, though. I got some chinese extended battery as well.

No, it's very slow but it's extremely hackable so I keep it around. Alpine Linux with Sway is speedy enough for that, I've maxed out the ram at 8G and it's using a SATA SSD.

My main rig is a desktop with a 5700g and a server with a 5950X.

Grub let's you use a custom splash screen. I'm sure other bootloaders have the same capability.

In this case it's more convoluted because it's the actual BIOS bootsplash. You have you flash the actual firmware chip for this :marseybigbrain:

Oh I thought you changed the Plymouth logo with a custom theme, which doesn't require touching the bios. Changing the actual bios logo is pretty cool!

Yup, it's running Coreboot and using SeaBIOS for the payload.

This is an Thinkpad X200 running Coreboot (a FOSS BIOS replacement) running a SeaBIOS “payload” (Coreboot implements a very barebones system and then it loads a “payload” which can be anything from SeaBIOS (a simple but conventional BIOS implementation) to GRUB2 (on the actual flash chip) to actual Linux (again from the actual firmware chip).

In this case I added a bootsplash image to the Coreboot payload and it finally worked after a lot of hacking around with image formats and graphics “drivers”.

Hmm I'm not sure SeaBIOS does sounds but I recall the GRUB payload being able to do that.
