I have never used a VPN whilst using public torrents and my ISP has never done shit

I remember downloading that batman porn parody in college then the dude started suing everyone so I got real paranoid and started using peerblock. But I guess we all got the last laugh since that dude went to prison over that whole thing.

I got some shit in the mail after using peerblock so I switched to a seed box. It's way better and nobody bothers trying to send letters to Cyprus.

Ive always doubted peerblock is terribly effective, but less hassle and much faster than a VPN. I'll check out seed box. Thanks for the suggestion.

It depends a lot on where you're from. Most countries don't really give a shit but e.g. Germans get btfo

I don't believe this. Literally just say it wasn't you. Oh someone was connected to my router that did it? Well I'm not good with computers I never really set a WiFi password, maybe the neighbors did it you can ask them.

Too bad that it's not how it works here. You, the customer who privately owns the internet access, is completely responsible for the traffic. Dindu nuffin doesn't work in Germany. You can rat out the perpetuator and that's all.

So you can be fined whilst they only have an IP address and nothing more on you? That's really sad if true

It is, Internet Providers save IPs up to 6 months(Government rule). And it's pretty obvious that content owners/lawcels honey potting on torrent too.

That's what I've done. The IT customer support always gave the "oh my" wink and a nod. ISPs don't wnat to be responsibility for whatever the DMCA autists demand, and they also want your money, so they give plenty of chances.
