Its the genie you can't cork back in. Why have a piece of software that you sell for 60$, that most likely will get pirated and your loyal customer base pays once but you have to still maintain/update said software that may or may not have diminishing returns? Subscription models make providers feel safe with a semi predictable income stream. It sucks but thats how they see the logic of it. Just pirate or use OSS or whoever that still does one time purchases.
