Euros deserve being treated like 2nd class citizens for forcing annoying and useless cookie banners on the entire global internet

Ad companies figured out how to bypass them like a decade ago with fingerprinting but we still have to deal with EU regulations that forced randomly designed modals that block viewable content, that never the same buttons or text, where it's like a mandatory captcha. Just so Euros can pat themselves on the back they used Gov to push their good intentions with little ROI for the millionth time.

I prefer the idea of itoddlers forgetting their proprietary Lightning cable, nobody around has one they can borrow because everyone else has usb-c, and the Lightning cables are 4x the price

Denying them the right to feel smug about not being able to lend other people cables is also important.

"Oh anyone have an apple cable I can borrow? How about you, other highly sophisticated apple person?" :marseyshooting:

it sounds good right now cuz its new and usb c is in vogue but it will hurt innovation. The lightning external tip is smaller than usb c so is better suited for smaller devices, it came out of a real positive design use case.

But that also a stupid reduction to make, it's not just lightning vs usb c, or apple vs open standards. There could be many superior open alternatives in the future that are better generally or far better for one particularly niche case that needs it badly. But it will be DOA because no one will even try, knowing they will have to fight a regulatory monster to ever see the light of day.

Making USB standards committee our new pseudo private monopoly indefinitely - and their choices higher stakes (and slower).

It's always years down the road when this well intentioned stuff backfires, or it was already happening anyway 90% of the time, and then it never goes away despite market shifts

Oh the lightning cable was superior to the USB-C? That's cool. Too bad it was proprietary so no one but Apple could use it. Gtfo of here with this iphone sucking nonsense.

I'm not sure I buy them being forced by the EU.

They announced lightning having a 10 year support cycle for manufacturers and they introduced the USB-C on the 11th year.

It's also not like they hated USB-C…they literally helped design it and were so gung-ho people got upset.

Apple is free to switch to a less fascistic business model.

Fascism is when you have a walled garden to increase user security.

:#marseyitsallsotiresome2:

Why do so many nerds sperg out about Apple?

Their model works perfectly for normies and old people. The idea that they must change it to satisfy a bunch of turbo nerds that consider all their products overpriced underpowered crap anyways is completely ridiculous.

Regardless of the reason for their walled garden, I don't have to deal with dumb butt malware or ransomware that normies and old folk I know stumble upon when they switch to Apple and it's still not fascism. :marseyshrug:

Yes

Why do so many nerds sperg out about Apple?

Because code I wrote on my desktop, that runs on windows, linux, mac, android (with a wrapper) and *bsd, on arm, x86 and mips can't be easily port to crapples mobile devices because muh security
