Air Canada was seemingly so invested in experimenting with AI that Crocker told the Globe and Mail that "Air Canada's initial investment in customer service AI technology was much higher than the cost of continuing to pay workers to handle simple queries." It was worth it, Crocker said, because "the airline believes investing in automation and machine learning technology will lower its expenses" and "fundamentally" create "a better customer experience."

:marseygiggle: clearly bought into the ai hype. ai can't even steal chat support jobs and i see ai talking over software jobs doomposting every single day

The software jobs doomposting is kind of hilarous when most of the noise comes from journaloids whose jobs are already being replaced by AI.

It's easier to be replaced by a bot that randomly makes shit up if your job already includes about 30% making shit up.

Only 30%? You're feeling generous today!

I remember having ChatGPT write me a yaml and I was super scared for like 30 seconds because it had a bunch of Gm commands that I didn't know existed and then after around 30 seconds I realized that it just made them up on the spot

I bet you are stupid as shit to be unable to use ChatGPT to generate code

Generating python code is a lot easier than stuff like yamls

Air Canada essentially argued that "the chatbot is a separate legal entity that is responsible for its own actions,"

Darn, they solved the problem of AI liability just like that. Self-driving cars tomorrow!

"a program we bought to run on our servers is not us" is not a super stronk defense IMO

Air Canada is the worst airline in the free world. They'll kill your dog, cripple you, and make you crawl off the plane.

AI has made people so lazy lmao. You gotta double check that shit :marseyxd:

I double check chatgpt but why would I double check what a company is telling me? I have their exact instructions in writing. Alot of people probably wouldn't notice it's a language model instead of a real person. The difference shouldn't matter since they would both be trained representatives of the company and the company is responsible for making sure they do their job. If the companies representatives frick up, you can only blame the company that put them in that position

This is exactly how you curtail irresponsible AI adoption. It's a tool, not a person. It can't hold liability. So who wants it? The buying company or the selling AI startup? That legal hot potato will be interesting to watch

who wants it

The answer to that depends rather heavily on the quality of results it gives when I try to generate images :marseycoomer2:
