Chicago recently moved to cancel our ShotSpotter contract and the reasoning is just beyond r-slurred. They'll say shit like "oh it has false positives" but it's actually much better at detecting gunfire than humans are, ie humans have a way, way higher false positive rate (morons calling in fireworks etc. as gunshots). And then they cited some shit like "oh in 60% of cases there's nothing there so false positive" when the reality is that it's 60% of cases the cops don't find anyone because anyone involved in the shooting left before they got there.
