Assanage didn't really do shit except burn intelligence assets and expose a few war crimes (chain of command working as intended).

It was common knowledge that the alphabets were collecting data on people in legally gray ways. Now, even the more r-slurred elements of society are aware because it's a juicy mainstream news story and was such a hit he got added to the lore of the MSM Universe (I remember him coming up a lot in the 2016 election cycle).

Marketing tools of today are exponentially more invasive and common than anything the NSA was running back then.

I wonder what kind of cool cyberstalking programs the feds are running now. Lord knows we haven't received any legislation to protect digital privacy.

If all he did was receive and distribute classified information he'd have legitimate 1st amendment claims. But he actively participated by encouraging and even helping manning illegally access the documents. I'm not sure of the details of his charges but he was absolutely an accessory to at least the charges involving manning

I'm not sure when people started saying this but you were absolutely called a !schizos if you were saying “the government does warrantless wiretaps on all internet traffic at the ISP level”.

Isn't that Snowden though? I thought Assange was the Wikileaks / war crimes guy.

Because it's cope by those people. First it was 'they would never do it' and now it is 'they're doing it but others do it too and also you can't escape it' as per G-PIGs comment

And if Mr. ISP refuses, like the CEO of Qwest, mysterious "financial crimes" occur and it's a weirdly open-and-shut prosecution of a C-level executive, with the justice system suddenly becoming very 1-tier
