It really isnt worth it for $100k at this point. You have to deal with so many idiots who have no idea what's involved in the work and most of them are working on the codebase with you.

Btw 100k when this was a good job is ~180k today. Better to be a plumber or a sparky if you're making the choice now

The median household income in the USA is $74k - making six figs is a very good single person income.

Doomposting about a codecel job only making $100k is crazy.

The country's local markets are too variable for a national figure to be helpful.

If I'm buying crap on Amazon, $100K feels like a lot. If I'm hiring a sitter, going out to lunch, or paying a mortgage, $100K feels like a waste of time to apply for.

Pre-2008 it was a lot better. Astronomical bonuses, company vacations every quarter, etc.

At least that's what the old foxes told me about the good ol' days at deutsche.

From when I decided I wanted to pivot into coding to when it happened, it took me about 4 years of the hardest I've worked in my life, nonstop grinding and studying every hour of the week.

how r-slurred do you have to be to take four years of constant studying to learn to code lmao

i coasted through most of a computer science degree drinking heavily and doing not a lot of work, i had like 4-5 actual difficult classes

Jump in the discussion.

You had to take 4 or 5 phys ed classes as a cs major?

Jump in the discussion.

Honestly the greatest struggle in any CS degree is actually bothering to do the piss easy work you get assigned rather than anything else, this is why nowadays CS profs tend to add arbitrary requirements to projects like "Every variable needs to start with your mother's maiden name and birthdate" as well as "I need you to print out your entire thing on paper or it's an automatic fail. I'm also going to change all the naming conventions I'm pushing on you ever so slightly so you're always on your toes."

This results in unmaintainable code and printer fees, but it helps them justify their jobs since the actual material's so easy.
