Mint, because ultimately I don't have much time for troubleshooting. Everything working out of the box in a Windows-esque shell is valuable to me.

Im on macOS now after buying a Mac Studio in February. It's great!

I didn't expect to like it this much. :chadstevejobspat:

Before that I was on Fedora since about 2019, prior it was Ubuntu and Arch. :marseygroomerarch:

I'm not a huge fan of Red Hat (I use it at work) because I find the repos lacking- kind of silly they don't support everything in Fedora does :marseyhmm:

At work my company provided laptop uses Win11 - it's fine? I'm not sure why people hate Win11 so much, I think most of my complaints are the company spyware they install (but still don't use effectively to provision laptops well :marseyeyeroll: )

I have a little x200 that runs Voidlinux as well and do mess around with BSDs often enough, I always miss systemd though :marseyshrug:

Windows 11 is fine. By the time I used it most of the kinks had been ironed out and it ran a bit better then 10 (still uses like 1-2 gigs of RAM doing nothing). I think most of the hate comes from A). people dont like changing OSs even if its minor change like w11 which is a thing Microsoft is stills tying to fix and B). it didnt any fix any of the major windows 10 problems while still missing some QOL win10 features and just seeming to exist to push AI stuff no one really cares about.

I use Mint on a laptop and would not recommend any Linux distro for laptop use. Power optimization is shit and none of them seem to be able to figure out how to wake laptops up from sleep after you open the lid again.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Must be laptop dependent, my dad's laptop has no issues with wake from sleep on Mint LTS.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I run Manjaro on an MSI POS so my battery was always butt and waking up from sleep is just something I dont care about.

Are you using the "EDGE" edition of Mint? Laptop hardware support is better in that release.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

No, I'm using "Victoria" because that's what came installed by default for my laptop... maybe they opted for stability instead of better Laptop hardware support.

I'll look into it though. Thanks

Using Fedora with KDE. The trick is hitting the power button (which is set to put it to sleep) before closing the lid. If I don't, sometimes it thinks it's outputting to HDMI and refuses to switch to its laptop screen.

Never really had any battery issues. Old shit is a different story, but that's probably the same with any OS.
