Turns out the anti-malware is the biggest malware of them all: windows machines worldwide that installed CrowdStrike are all crashing because someone at the company fricked up
they have a customer ticket here if you have an account https://supportportal.crowdstrike.com/s/article/Tech-Alert-Windows-crashes-related-to-Falcon-Sensor-2024-07-19

rCrowdStrike thread
I can't believe that a) I actually came to rDrama first to see what the word was on this when it started and b) that there was no thread until now.

I got stuck in this. Car was on empty and BP, Shell, 7eleven couldn't take my fuel card or any payments. Managed to make it to an independent that took my last $20. Cash Chads keep winning

Can't wait to see the fallout later tonight on /r/AusFinance who have been mocking "cookers" every time the subject "cash is king" comes up. I mean, I don't use cash because I'm not a tradie skipping GST, but I can't why people can't see that depending entirley on an electronic system doesn't have it's risks

I instantly dismiss anyone who uses the word cookers. It's the most overused Soystralianism

assuming you're not asking sarcastically, cookers is short for "cooked unit" or "cooked c*nt" which is slang for someone either currently high as frick or a drug addict (along the same vein as methhead, tweaker, etc.)
aussoys use it to talk about muh rightoid conspiracy theorists to imply their brains are just fricked from drugs

I mean you're screwed for a couple hours it's nice to have a $20 on you but if the credit card system is down for like a week a lot more shit is probably broken too.

If corpos miss their loan payments due to technical errors in the credit payment networks themselves will defaults and contract breech clauses still apply !nooticers

I assume this is going to be the worst outage in history? Crowdstrike runs on lots of business critical machines that no one ever cares about, like the controller that runs fire alarms at Edinburgh Airport. And they're Windows machines so you know that they're not being supported by a good IT team. I think there will be a lot of "throw this machine away and buy a new one".

Fire alarms make me so fricking mad because the r-slur corporations bought out all the municipal licensing/code enforcement departments and write the rules. Even the advanced frickin alarms are mid 00s tech there is no reason to introduce a windows PC into the system

Adding an OS overhead like windows to fire critical systems is the most fricked r-slurred thing.

I wanted to make a post about how it used to be better but I have very vivid memories of a giant 90s first gen digital alarm network that relied on a DOS environment
It was some Jurassic Park shit and the HDD died so the client sourced one on ebay and just popped it in and it moved the entire DB down 2 rows. So command 136 was now 138, all the device addresses were moved and so on. They kept a bolt on the enter key to acknowledge the constant errors
