The failure rate of these sensors is gonna be off the charts

They appear to be focused on reporting other vehicles to the police, so maybe not? I mean shit people seem to really love Ring cameras even with all the privacy issues with them.

Remember a bunch of people literally agree to have hot mics in their homes at all times so Amazon or Google can listen to every single thing they say or do, 24/7.

A Ford spokesperson told Motor Authority: 'The patent explicitly states this idea is specific for application in law enforcement vehicles, such as the Ford Police Interceptor, and it's a system that would automate a capability that law enforcement already have in use today, except this would utilize the built-in system and sensors in the vehicle.'

As much as the :marseyglow: and :marseycop: would like for civilian cars to be forced to include these, you'd have to both standardize the communication protocol AND have the government mandate car manufacturers include this IoTshit in their cars with the standardized protocol (they would lobby against this because of the added costs) AND have all the local police departments integrate into the same system controlled by some central hub to route messages based on geolocation. And the IoT endpoint would probably have to be unauthenticated unless they somehow make it mandatory for all registered cars on the road to have this IoTshit.

It's workable per police department (where the police department can control the IoT server and can easily implement authentication based on police car IDs) but would probably only be implemented by some departments.

Consumers are cattle, though, and wouldn't care.

i remember bidens people pushing for something similar a few years ago...like in 10 years all cars built should include an "onstar" type of system...so uh law enforcement can stop criminals...

this of course would never be used against regular citizens when their social credit score is below threshold...or if they've maxed their mileage for the month...

Meh, I'll just pull the fuses/wire in switches to deactivate it like I do with built in gps

pulling fuses in bad faith should void the vehicle's warranty

So, if your car spotted a nearby car breaking the speed limit, it could photograph that vehicle and send the snap directly to the police. 'The image may be evaluated for determining at least one identifying feature of the second vehicle,' Ford explains in the patent.

1984 and all that... Snitching on other drivers. This will certainly be exploitable to the advantage of incriminating others.

If this happens I'm gonna start a social campaign to have bipocs smash parked snitch cars, claiming that it will endanger black lives by disproportionately targeting them for police.

Ford couldn't even place :marseychtorrr: a working :marseylifting: backup camera :marseyneat: on my car. Ac compressor blew up less than 50k miles, paint :marseybraveheart: bubbling up off the hood from bad primer job. My turn signal even stopps working :marseylifting: every once in a great :marseythumbsup2: while, turning the car off and on again fixes it lol. I'm sure these sensors will work flawlessly and every cop will be trained to calibrate them :marseyclueless:
