Bro it is literally easier than ever nowadays to pirate. You don't even need to know how to install bit, mu, etc softwares. Even if you are a total drooling tard, there are more than enough P2P remote servers which let you download whatever the frick you want just by copy-pasting (that's longpressing on ipad for you zoomer !r-slurs) the magnet link.

Even a VPN is optional since you are opening the piracy site for only a couple of minutes till you get the link. And once the link is pasted, you can just go to sleep, wake up the next day and jerk off to whatever hentai VR joi you pirated.

If I can't find something in piratebay, almost all of the time I'll find it in yts, rarbg or 1337

YTS might be a glowie honeypot these days. I personally don't trust them.

If you're a little sus - go via a VPN

If you're moderately sus - go through Tor

If you're just fricking paranoid - keep a cheap burner smartphone, apply the previous steps just to get that magnet link, send it via a dummy gmail you created on that smartphone to tempmail or some other temporary email service. Copy it from there. Paste it into your remote server. Choose a server which lets you stream so you don't even have to download it.

I'm in a private group so I dont care :marseyshrug: I just remember the Feds nabbing one of the YTS leads, then YTS going down and magically going back up a day later and the userbase splitting.

I mean the feds made the Argentinians (@nuclearshill you were the Argentinian snitch, weren't you?) arrest the operators of Z-lib back in 2022. Z-lib is still up however and moreover Z-lib uses the same repository of files that libgen uses. So the Z-lib guys definitely had access to the contributors of libgen.

That hasn't really stopped anyone from using either Zlib or libgen as a free bookshop

:#marseyxdoubt:

Using statistical methods, Giles and Khabsa estimated that at least 114 million English-language scholarly documents are accessible on the Web, of which Google Scholar has nearly 100 million. They estimate that at least 27 million (24 percent) are freely available since they do not require a subscription or payment of any kind. The estimates are limited to English documents only.

If 114 million papers are there and only 27 million are free, that means 87 million are paywalled. Average price of an article from Elsevier would be around ~$30. Which means a person would need to spend 2.6Billion to get the entire output of academic articles written in English.

Compare this to the total number of Hollywood movies produced till now which stands at around about 800,000. If a rental stream of a movie (on a platform which allows a la carte) one year after release costs $6, each person would need to spend a mere 5 million to enjoy the entirety of Hollywood.

That is why the profit margins of Universal and Sony barely goes up above 10% while that of Elsevier and Springer rarely goes below 40%

I stop pirating games since so many new games need like 50 fricking patches after launch to work.

If you're a casual g*mer it doesn't make sense at all. I don't really play games anymore, so maybe yeah, you're right...however I do like to casually watch/re-watch a movie and I'm not going to search for it on hulu, Netflix, peapeepee etc
