why do your !schizos friends insist on using Signal and then not following basic key management practices.

I swear to god I've managed to keep my keys for 7 years and I've got friends changing them every week

Good privacy schizos aren't using signal

What do they use instead?

Do you disagree with this crypto furry?

I do disagree. He disqualified all good messaging options by saying

if you allow a "transmit plaintext" mode for any reason whatsoever, you have failed to build an encryption product that meets the bar.

This is a bad take. It demands that large public rooms take on additional overhead for no benefit.

Second, communications should be decentralized. Masatadon has caused this tenet to develop into a meme and triggered a lot of hand wringing, but we can admit that it would be disastrous if one day google consolidated control over all of email.

Decentralization reduces the amount of control any one organization can exert over our communications.

Consider matrix:

matrix offers a good, extensible platform than handles keys well. It doesn't require you to give away data mineable info that connects you to a given account, unlike signal which required a phone number

Finally, I'm not sure that a messaging app completely dependent on a nonprofit getting free money is sustainable. If they don't have enough money to keep the lights on, then the entire system dies with it. Contrast that with email: there's no equivalent point of failure that wipes out all of email forever. That's because decentralization increases sustainability

And to your second question: real schizos use xmpp or maybe matrix

Also also: real privacy schizos don't give websites their phone numbers, which proves signal users are fake schizos

Good privacy schizos don't care about most communication and know signal is for midwit freaks

You're a privacy neurotic at best. True privacy schizos know that tremendous amounts of information about a person can be inferred just from their mundane communications

(((Signal))) glows so bright you might as well share your messages with the CIA contact form to save some hassle.

I don't really buy into the paranoia. But, even if the government had all my Signal messages and those messages were evidence of crimes, they still wouldn't use it against me because they intelligence communities are reserved about revealing the scope and sources of their intelligence.

At worst, I'd worry about it being used to make a parallel construction. Even then, I doubt intelligence services would be willing to risk creating a smoking gun for the access they have.

This furry has some valid points but this post is mostly a hit piece because shill cute twinks were annoying him. But yeah it sucks (though it's the best we have at the moment).

The problem with signal is that you only get privacy and no anonymity. Also the board members are glowing as green as :gimp:, being funded by the CIA and being massive proponents of censorship. The cryptographer :marseyjewish: who founded Signal is a schizo who likes privacy and freedom as long as HE or people he likes are in control of the technology that provides it.

There's nothing to support your schizo ramblings. Every court request for Signal's data was returned with minimal information limited to account creation date, last login and associated phone number. Unless you are willing to believe that they lie to courts constantly, there's literally no data that could be used to compromise you

Why use signal when you can just use Steam Chat or the in-game chat of a dead game through their PM system?

Amateurs. :marseyeyeroll:

I heard someone in here (forgot who) that would use this same strategy in case of doing things that would warrant a search from the :marseyglow:. But if it is a dead game, why would the owners still host it? and wouldn't they be on the lookout for any mail or visit from the feds? As they don't have almost no users, unless the chatlogs get wiped from their servers and when they arrive or inquiry it's probably 2 l8t.

Just find a Chinkshit gacha. The server will be in CCP-loving hellhole like Singapore or Hong Kong.

There was some drug dealers that used animal crossing new leaf in game chat to talk to each other which is brilliant honestly Nintendo doesn't record anything.

Do you mean regularly re-authing with signal or actual neurodivergentally handling your own keys?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

You can verify each others keys in person but if you don't transfer them when you get a new device or uninstall the app entirely it regenerates the keys. The user friendly UI calls this your "safety number" (its derived from your keys) https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007060632-What-is-a-safety-number-and-why-do-I-see-that-it-changed
