This is, it must be noted, a worldwide trend, and Europe is poised to ban Twitter next. In fact, the Council of Europe has an entire movement - the No Hate Speech Movement - dedicated to internet censorship, with the movement billing itself as "young people united for human rights online". The "human rights" lobby has tried for decades to enact sweeping worldwide internet censorship, with the European Court of Human Rights and the United Nations Human Rights Commission both repeatedly stressing that the battle against online "hate speech" is one of their top priorities. The European Court of Human Rights has also tried desperately to force the global internet to comply with "right to be forgotten" requests (an ECHR-invented "right" which has since spread outside Europe), but has thankfully had little success as far as American websites are concerned. Canada has Orwellian "Human Rights Tribunals" that often jail people (and even set people up to be jailed) for online "hate speech", but they've also been frustrated by their inability to censor American websites. The fact that the internet remains largely in American hands has long been a thorn in the side of "human rights activists" seeking internet censorship, and the United Nations has repeatedly tried their darndest to wrest over control of the internet so that the web can be governed according to "international human rights law", i.e. censored.
