After iToddlers finally get RCS, r/Android still complains

https://old.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1fj5x2w/rcs_now_in_ios_a_new_chapter_for_mobile_messaging/

Quick tldr on RCS: It's a richer form of text reliant on cellphone companies and carriers to come together and agree upon standarts (hence it taking thousands of years to implement). This is why we have iMessage, the superior form of texting for those who make competent purchases with their NEET bux and wagie dollardos. It does nothing of note that iMessage didn't do but is instead actually a downgrade in nearly every way except when communicating with green bubble r-slurs, and even then facebook messenger from 5 years ago is still somehow better.

As someone who has family who knows they can easily send me a video on FB Messenger but still sends it to me through SMS, I've been waiting so long for this.

I'm an apple guy and enabled it hoping to improve texts with my android contacts. Turns out half of them don't have RCS enabled on their side. Dammit!

Sadly that's been my experience as well.

That being said, I think a few of them are due to them using texting apps that are downloaded from the play store which don't have RCS built in since as far as I'm aware, Google still hasn't opened up the API access to RCS service.

Here we see the true Android experience. Getting a "upgrade" that your users don't even have turned on by default, or turned off themselves because they're literally dumb.

Just updated my wife's iPhone to 18 and strangely I can't send her RCS messages even though she can send them to me. I'm on a Pixel 9 Pro XL. Has anyone else experienced this?

Edit - a group chat with my wife and parents was updated, but not the individual chat.

I'm having this issue right now but it does show up on my computer which is weird.

Yeah maybe in a few hours my phone will catch up. On existing rcs chats I have the option to force sms/MMS but no fancy options on existing iPhone chats yet unfortunately.

:soyjakwow: Maybe RCS was actually broken on Android's and Apple got the implementation right? It's just no one used it cause it sucked lmao. "Maybe in a few hours my phone will catch up" = sitting the the cuck chair waiting for a text

Lots of carriers don't support RCS.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/109526

The fact we have to rely on carriers to implement RCS is embarrassing. It should have been designed to be carrier/device agnostic.

I wonder why iMessage was made over a decade ago :marseythonk:

Has anyone tried this in the wild and found it lacking? I've been trying it with someone on iphone who updated to ios 18 and while it shows it's RCS, there's no typing indicator and read receipt still just says it was delivered, but not read

I played around with it between me and my wife's iPhone (Both on T-Mobile). Here's what we found:

The bad

It took a few texts before it worked properly. Not sure what happened there, but the first few she sent me just never came through. After that it seemed fine

Replying to a message didn't show properly on the iPhone

Custom reactions didn't show properly

Some of the more complex messaging options from iPhone obviously didn't work. She used an "Echo" and it just read "(sent with Echo)"

The good

We see typing indicators

Pictures / Videos worked very well

General reactions seemed to work well

Overall

It's still a little janky. It's better than it was, but still feels kind of second class. I can probably kill the custom slack that we've used for the last couple of years I guess.

What's hilarious is I've told all my friends to get on iOS 18 and half of them came back saying "nah I'm not gonna update cause it'll brick my old phone, you know how Apple is." Just can't win lmao

This is Stockholm Syndrome mentality. Jesus Christ. If people can't trust their phone maker not to frick up their phone with an update, they should look at other options

If you're iToddler friends say this it means they have a group chat making fun of you :marseygiggle:

Now if Google would just let all Android users use RCS instead of just some.

How about if Google added it to their own darn product? Why have they given up on Google Voice?

Oh I did forget to mention that not all Androids even have RCS :marseycrylaugh:

RCS is forever going to be stuck at better than SMS, worse than everything else because it's being brokered by Google and phone carriers.

And I can't use it on Android because I won't use the Google Messages app. If only it could be an open standard...

Interesting thing of note is that weirdos are obsessed with Read Text. I don't get the appeal of obsessively checking to make sure a text was read and then waiting in the cuck chair hoping to get an instant reply while you creepily imagine every scenario that person is doing instead of replying to you asking what they want for dinner only to find out some mundane thing and then repeating it ad nausea cause you're an r-slur who can't live without other... I don't know where I am going with this. Read Text if for cute twinks and I'll never turn it on :marseyshooter:

Do you have read text on or off?

Also if you use an Android be sure to check out https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-se for your next phone purchase :marseyderpthumbsup:

Read receipts are a mistake, and add a whole level of immidiacy to texting that as a lifelong android user Ive been blissfully ignorant of until I learner that there are iPhone users that use that feature and its very annoying. If you need or want an immidiate response to a text you should probably say that, or something that implies urgency.

the read reciept thing is a top reason i never switched to iphone. I also hate read reciepts in emails and always reject them and dont read the email when people do that shit. Like who the frick do you think you are deborah?!

Physical read receipts (certified mail) are expensive and are generally only ever used when someone has a legal duty to tell you something.

My iToddler device is trying to tell you something.

I meant to say that you can turn IT off. Read receipts a can be disabled globally and re enabled individually.

If only there was some way that you could use your cell phone to contact someone and get an immediate response. Someone should probably work on that, I imagine it would be a popular feature.
