I stopped reading at the subheading

The language Go hails from an era when programmers had smaller egos and fewer commercial ambitions

1. Programmers have always been insufferable

2. Go was released in 2009, tech was already overrun with FANG strags.

Take one look at this guy and tell me he isn't a total cute twink with tons of r-slurred opinions

Also go is probably the worst programming language.

"The key point here is our programmers are Googlers, they're not researchers. They're typically, fairly young, fresh out of school, probably learned Java, maybe learned C or C++, probably learned Python. They're not capable of understanding a brilliant language but we want to use them to build good software. So, the language that we give them has to be easy for them to understand and easy to adopt."

Reminder that Go is designed to let code monkeys mash bananas without making too much of a mess:

Frick Go (terrible name btw), frick garbage collected languages, frick that disgusting gopher logo in particular, and frick these r-slurs who need to constantly mention that KEN THOMPSON THE CREATOR OF C ZOMG GUYS HE WORKED ON GO!!!1 GO IS TOTALLY LIKE THE NEXT C!!

Frick "creating and marketing a programming language that has no unique features whatsoever". There does not need to be 10-30 application specific programming languages and configuration files. There needs to be one language to rule them all, and maybe one can come out like every 15 years to replace it in backwards-incompatible way. (and also assembly and hardware description languages)

The Bad Ending: AI slop serves as an abstraction layer for a spaghetti mess of shitty languages coded by Doing the Needful outsource devs with layers of crap put on it until 99% of the planets energy production is used for running EC2 instances blowing power into horrifically optimized applications that literally no one understands how to fix because all they can do is query GitHub Copilot and use CTRL+C CTRL+V and all the lights just turn off

Then pick a language out of a hat, they're all equally inferior and AWS has base images for all of them

It's impressive how little that essay says anything good or bad about the language (or other languages), only briefly mentioning that its error handling "system" sucks. It's clearly trying to talk about the "vibes" of the language and its community, but manages to say nothing beyond the Wikipedia page. :marseyreportercnngenocide:

Watching these doyens of programming create Go was like seeing Scorsese, De Niro, and Pesci reunite for The Irishman.

What I find more intriguing—and rarer than we might have thought—are the cases where masters in their later years do accept a certain closure

How dumb are jeets that they can't grasp c. "Oh no saarz we must allocate memory and deallocate at a later date. This seems too much like redeeming, I refuse" :marseypajeetitsover:

Go, the language that requires you to allocate "ballasts", because it doubles the memory allocation every time it runs out (causing it to crash at GB-levels)? This language isn't even fit to run a Fisher-Price toy.
