google too stupid to repair their own smart watch

https://www.wired.com/story/google-is-thinking-through-the-pixel-watchs-design-to-be-repairable/

If you break the Google Pixel Watch—whether the first-generation smartwatch from 2022 or the latest model launched earlier this month—there is no way to repair it through official channels. Instead, if you successfully make a warranty claim, Google will send you a replacement unit instead of repairing your model. This lack of repairability highlights the company's inexperience in the smartwatch space. :marseybrainlet:

I read this boring article after seeing it on reddit, but looking into it :marseyelonmusk:, the pixel watch doesnt seem any less repairable compared to its contemporaries?, seems typical for battery swap, for example

unless needing to heat up adhesive is considered unrepairable :marseyreading:

i dont think its that difficult, is it simply too labor intensive for google? :marseynerd3: is anything more than phillips heads unrepairable? :marseysmug2: even for a multibillion dollar company that designed the thing?

this is what Apple does with whole phones.

if you break the screen with AppleCare they just give you a new one on the spot and charge you $80

They do it with whole computers too. They solder and glue as much as possible.

I work with people in phone repair. It's big business and highly automated. Nothing gets "throw out" it just doesn't have a fast turn around time so they send you a new device.

it boggles how far companies like google and apple will be not willing to repair their own devices because I guess it costs more to actually maintain an infrastructure of repair instead of just having the device get chucked and send a new one.

And that chucked device is a tax write off or something.

These are the companies that harp about climate change and shit but generate the most e-waste than anyone else.
