That tracks. I know some of our stack is on linux VMs but it'd make sense to use it for sensors too since it's lighter weight than windows. I know in school we used linux for embedded controllers and stuff.

Only thing about the popular Linux distros is that they aren't RTOS's. So if you have need for real-time data, you have to use some more obscure distros to accomplish that.
