this just goes to show how much of a difference a few teachers can make, and also shows how shitty most teachers are.

It has more to do with what happens when you identify gifted students and fricking ride them. The teacher in this case was willing to go against the educational orthodoxy. These results don't generalize to everyone, but they don't have to and that shouldn't be the criteria by which they are judged.
