Am I an r-slur or is there no way to stop apps from starting with bluetooth on android?

I've spent the last 2 days trying to figure out how to stop ultrasonic and vlc from starting every time I turn Bluetooth on, but I can find literally nothing on how to do it.

I know they set up a broadcast receiver, what I don't know is how to remove it or make it ignore it.

Googled it, got nothing but app shit from stackoverflow and AI generated bullshit blog spam neither of which helped.

Surely there is a god damned way to stop this right? Surely android isn't so broken any app can start autostart when it feels like?

Tried running pm disable org.moire.ultrasonic/.receiver.BluetoothIntentReceiver from a root adb shell and while said it was disabled the app still auto starts with bluetooth

What phone do you have? When I turn Bluetooth on none of my apps autostart. It might be that the custom skin from your manufacturer is garbage and causing this.

I'm on an s5 with lineageOS 17

Ah I'm currently using Android 12 and before that 11. I never used 10 much and it's very possible that issue was fixed in a newer Android version. You could try the lineageos forums but they will probably just tell you to update to lineage 18.1. Which while possible is a real pita to do with lineageos, it requires basically reinstalling it and wiping your device. I would also try checking the vlc app info on your phone, there might be a permission or setting to turn that off.

I can stop it from scanning for new media at start, but there's nothing to stop it from starting with bluetooth

That might work, also see if it has a general Bluetooth permission, that might also be the problem.

To clarify not in the app itself, but in the app permissions section in the system settings.

Nope, Neither app autostarting with BT has any permissions at all.

Ah rip, I would post in the lineageos forums, this might be a bug or issue with lineageos because I've not encountered something like this myself.

I was hoping to avoid that but I might have too.

I just feel like leting a user pick and choose which broadcasts apps can act on is pretty basic right? I'm not being unreasonable right? Linux can manage this shit just fine.

Fat fingered that, I'm on android 11 (lineage 18.1) I never had this issue with android 10

At this I'm thinking I'll just wipe my phone and reinstall everything. Admining android is just such shit.

Yeah tbh Android 11 is kinda garbage for system control, 12 improved this greatly imo at the cost of it actually looking good lol.

Man I fricking hate android. Why do they have to make such massive god darned changed from version to version? Even windows isn't this bad!

Maybe I should get a new phone. I mean this one is like 10 years old. Then again it works fine minus the google cucked software

Yeah Android is the better of two garbage mobile OSs lol. This is actually why I use Motorola mid rangers, the changes Motorola tend to make are stuff to mainly fix Google's r-sluration. Such as scrolling screenshots and per app volume levels, do have to turn off the stupid game mode though.

Had a moto, loved it, had to switch when even lineageos dropped support

Maybe I'll buy another one. tbh I stopped after they got caught installing malware (sorry "remote debugging tools" on their phones out of the factory"

It speaks volumes that Ubuntu for phones a discontinued OS from a small firm beats both IOS and android in usability. I just want to be able to make calls and stream music man. That's it. Why billion dollar firms can't help I do not know, plus I got drunk after getting mad trying to fix this shit

Yeah I don't even bother with lineageos anymore because of all the nice moto tweaks. Everyone online complains about Motorola only having one major update but tbh with how trash they have been I don't really see that as a downside.

I even have an app to tell me when to buy more moonshine from that nice fellow down the road who sells it real cheap (and god bless him for selling at 5 dollars per liter, he could charge 30 and still be worth it)

Meanwhile I can't auotmated a single frickign thin on android because muh security

Hmmmmm it's been a long time so I don't really remember but I thiiiiiiiiiiiiink a lot of the "task killer" apps have options to disable individual broadcast receivers. I may be thinking of something else though, and it's also possible (re: likely) that google has broken this functionality for unrooted devices in the name of "security" (lol) since the last time I fricked around with this stuff.

nvm you're on lineage, it was still called cyanogen last time I messed with it
