You know what else doesn't help the US? Science, for the vast bulk of scientists, pays like shit.

I got paid 55k a year right out of college to essentially clean test tubes, order chemicals, and run pretty basic experiments. When I hear shit like this I can't help but think they're talking like their sociology degree is a science degree

Yeah, useful sciences make money. The pay isn’t amazing starting out, but you can easily make bank if you can advance your career. Although, some people cling desperately for academia when they could triple their pay by going industry.

The “science” that mostly exists in niche academic settings doesn’t help anyone and will never pay well, even if you are considered a god in that field.
