Some dutch guy spammed it in 2021 on the now defunct /qa/ 4chan board that soyposters used to use. It caught on because it's genuinely well-animated, arguably funny and has some edgy jokes, although especially in the last year there has been considerable backlash against it on the Sharty. The wiki has a lot more detail about this.
