It's even funnier than that, if you paid attention you could observe the tables turning over literally a week in late February-early March 2020. Republicans were pushing for a quarantine, buying out masks and all that, while Nancy Pelosi literally went to hug people in SF Chinatown on Feb 24--all just like you'd expect from people's natural political inclinations.

But then on Feb 28 there were the first 15 cases detected in the US and Trump made a speech where he said that it was totally not a big deal and the situation was totally under control and Democrats were perpetuating this hoax against him, that he was not in control. Naturally not a single pro-Democratic rag could resist the temptation to claim that Trump called the coronavirus a hoax, and just like that all Right Thinking People realized that coronavirus was a Big Deal and only Trump-voting yokels didn't take it seriously.

The most fascinating thing about that was that not only everyone had their deeply held and morally charged political beliefs flipped practically overnight, it's also that besides a few incorrigible noooticers nobody even registered that anything weird happened.

But this is all predicted perfectly by scotts article. When it was dirty disgusting foreigners/bipoc chinx bringing their foreign diseases onto american soil, republicans were in favour of quarantine. The very instant it was spreading in the US by americans, republicans were against quarantining.

And that really isn't a flip of political beliefs, it perfectly portrays lard politics.
