Was going to sperg out about the history of zoos but I realize no one else here cares lol
But basically menageries kept by rulers as a show of power became zoos during the enlightenment which were meant as a strictly scientific endeavor. I realize the dates on this map are later, but it wasnβt βto show the superiority of white peopleβ so much as (supposedly) educational. It was racist in a way, yes, but not as blatantly as these people want it to seem.
Edit: also 99% sure those dates are wrong and it should be just be the late 18th and 19th century.
