i actually did something similar using a fake shortlink domain, making unrelated or offensive images to show up and appending 1337 code at the back, so maybe like an article talking about Brian Laundrie becomes https://shortlink.us/1nn0cen+
it worked for a few weeks on a 300k member sub but eventually someone noticed the preview image being different from the linked article and the urls so i got banned from the sub lol. it was a brand new domain and it seems that reddit spam filters dont catch those too

if you have the mods ips you, theoretically, should be able to
it's possible there are already tools to dynamically change the image based on the ip but getting the ips from the mods is the hard part (ips are trivial to change and rotate pretty often also)

oh yeah, now that i think about it, groomercord also allows embeds for arbitrary links, it might be possible to send a ipgrabber in form of image (i don't use groomercord, their systems could be more secure than that)

you can't grab IPs from embeds because they're proxied, but i'm sure you could find a way to convince them to click (hint: reddit generates an out.reddit.com redirect link whenever you click on a link for tracking, last time i checked it didn't check domains and you could probably hide an ip grabber behind it)
