This is actually considered mundane by Brazilian political campaigning standards.

Copypaste from my previous post:

October 2nd marks the first round of Brazilian presidential elections. Current President Jair Bolsonaro is running for reelection. Bolsonaro is a right-wing politician involved in several dramas such as honoring General Ustra, famous torturer of the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 70's; admitting sexual relations with chickens on television and friendship with criminals involved in the murder of Marielle Franco, a left-wing activist and politician from Rio de Janeiro; In addition to more boring controversies, such as disdain for the environment (to the point of firing the director of a government institution that pointed to an increase in deforestation during his government), disregard for the COVID-19 pandemic, saying in a statement that his "athletic history" would make him feel at most a little flu, if he were infected and multiple cases of corruption involving his sons.

His opponent (and the most likely winner of the election) is the leftist politician LuΓs InΓ‘cio da Silva, also known as "Lula"; former president of Brazil from 2003 to 2011, LuΓs was one of the most popular presidents, for using the economic boom (caused by external factors) that Brazil was experiencing during his term to make social programs, becoming the most popular politician in the poorest region of the country. Lula's integrity is the subject of most controversy in the elections, as his party is involved in multiple corruption scandals, in addition to his arrest in 2018, being released after 580 days, because of the "incopetence and political conflict" of the court that judged him, requiring a new investigation.

The 2022 election is proving to be extremely dramatic; President Bolsonaro has questioned the legitimacy of the electoral system several times in his speeches, to the point of saying that he would not accept defeat peacefully. The president's supporters have been involved in partisan violence, such as a shooting at a Lula-themed birthday party. The population, for the most part, is divided between which of the candidates is the least bad.
