(not exactly) weekly anime thread number 3

I know, I know, I didnt post a weekly anime discussion thread for some time now, and I am sorry that so many of you had to miss their favorite content on rdrama for so long. BUT, see the positives, everyone has seen so many anime in that time that it gives us soooo much more to discuss, so please tell us which anime you watched and how you liked them, which conventions you went on, how often you tried to impress your friends with your broken japanese (internet friends count as real friends too!) and how much you filled your waifu cumjar since the last thread!

So, do any of you weebs have any suggestions for any good anime series to watch if you're not into anime? I watched Legend of the galactic heroes and Initial D and those were pretty great despite being animes. Someone also once recommended me Attack on Titan, but it was too anime for me.

i guess i can recommend "made in abyss". its adventure/mystery/horror anime. and has only like 12 episodes.

This is a terrible recommendation lmao. I fricking love MiA but the author is a giant p-dophile and throws Riko into weird sexual situations all the time. Not an entry level anime at all

Yeah, based on the snippets I've seen, it's very much a weird one.

Depends on what kind of genre you are into tbh

I like stuff with either interesting animation/cinematography or interesting stories, if a series has that it's usually something I'll enjoy. I am a fan of mystery and horror films too, though.

Hm, I dont watch too much horror. For mystery and psycho stuff, maybe watch Mirai Nikki, but that might also be too anime. Honestly I cant really think of really 'scary' horror anime... I watched Shiki and that was pretty good too in my opinion, about a village in the middle of nowhere getting infiltrated by vampires.

Zetsuen no Tempest is one of my favorite shows, has a pretty good story imo.

For great animation you might wanna watch some anime movies, I watched Tenki no Ko in cinema when it came out, and the animation was sick. Also Kimi no Na wa and 5 centimeters per second. Those 3 are all from the same dude and really good movies, but also have romance stuff as a focus, not sure you are into that.

Personally I watch more romance and drama stuff, other people could probably give better recommendations too.

Samurai Champloo is not mystery or horror but a great entry level which I'm surprised no one mentioned. You can also try Vampire Hunter D for gothic horror. I would say Ghost in the Shell SAC is pretty entry level in it's core but it's a sci fi.

It will most likely will be way too anime for you, but if you're looking for one with the great, if not perfect cinematography. Neon Genesis Evangelion is pure kino in that department.

NGE is another bad entry level anime. You won't understand deconstruction of a genre without context. It's like watching Madoka without knowing what Sailor Moon is

Eh, I think you can still enjoy both shows. Depends how much you care about what the author wants to say vs if you just watch the show. There are tons of people who dont give a shit about what evangelion wants to say and just watch it for the plot. And for madoka, I dont even know if it is a deconstruction, it just masks as magical girl anime and then shows that it is something completely different.

Personally I would recommend evangelion because I havent even finished it, but I wouldnt recommend against it either if someone finds the premise interesting.
