Is it reflective of a lack of anti-drone AA technology that these systems are all missile based? Would it not make more sense / cost less to use a mini gun like the US Phalanx system?
The range on the missile is greater, but it seems that most of these drones are being shot down in visible range. Is this just using existing equipment that might not be completely suited for the task?

Usually not. Especially for suicide drones. The gun platforms absolutely exist (Shilka, for instance) but the chances of actually seeing the drone and hitting it in time before it's over the horizon are minimal. That's why Ukros have such a hard time even with slower missiles like Moskit.
These drones get shot down when some radar happens to catch them.

Yeah itβs crazy anti drone tech beyond electronic warfare hasnβt been the #1 research priority for the military over a decade ago (and the Russians have EW teams with every BTG while the Americans keep them as separate units and way less of them at that). Every battalion should have multiple lighter weight CWIS type auto-cannons or small cheap missiles to counter them.
Itβs crazy to me that they are still gambling on expensive laser systems still barely rolled out or trying to truck mount the Phalanx which was built for ships.
They still find plenty of time to debate whether tanks are still useful.
