I mean, it does bother me that I could have been sat on a plane with some butthole back in coach who had one of these pagers. I suppose the airport scanner might have picked up the explosive but I think that's relying on the monkey looking at the screen to know what to look for.
The fact that they distributed thousands of pagers and then waited half a year to set them off makes me think that they had some intel indicating that Hezbollah didn't take their pagers out of Lebanon since a single pager being discovered by airport dogs would have compromised the entire operation.
And even if there had been a real chance of a Hezbollah member carrying his pager onto a plane next to you, I think the signal was only sent to a specific region of Lebanon and Syria, not all pagers were detonated.

It would be pretty easy to see a big wad of plastic explosives in a pager. If it wasn't we would see it happen more.
