A few years ago I was watching that Star Trek episode where Barclay is making holodeck characters out of people he knows IRL except tweaking them so that he can beat Riker in a fight, all the women want him, etc. It suddenly occurred to me that this is how humanity will end. I think there's always been a subset of men like us, even before internet etc. It doesn't end well yes but trying to force it won't either, probably. I have a grand uncle who never married, used to go on months long trips to the mountains every year till his 60s. He has grown very bitter now so thats a bit worrying.
