What is Akira even about?

The movie plot is a little goofy and rushed because it was forced to cut a shitload of content from the manga in order to avoid it becoming too long and expensive, and even back then, it was already the most expensive Japanese animated film of all time (maybe it still is to this day I think), even with Otomo cutting out so many plot points from the manga, the film was still supposed to be a kino over 4 hours long I think, but even with cut content it was still too long, so they were forced to cut even more content from the cut content , inevitably resulting in a film that although being an animated masterpiece, ended up being a rushed story.

As an example, you see that clown guy in the beginning that appears for like only 1 minute and then completely disappears from the film? well he is an important character in the manga, and also that cult lady that appears for like 1 minute as well? she is featured a lot in the manga too.

In 2017, Otomo said that he was going to do an Akira anime series that would be more faithful to the manga and would be able to tell the story in full, it was supposed to be animated by the same studio behind Code Geass, but sadly nothing ever came out of it, presumably due to COVID-19 fricking everything up.

Anyways what exactly is confusing about Akira? The plot itself is pretty straightforward.

It’s a action horror anime, the point of that anime was to show beautiful and gore scenes but I do enjoy Ye version of Akira
