I really, really liked the 80s Bubblegum Crisis. The story was bad, but the animation was incredible.
Macross is OK, Dominion Tank Police also OK. There is a torrent out there with a bunch of Masamune's work which is p good, Appleseed and M88 especially. Also Maddox Full Metal Panic.
I also really liked Shakotan Boogie but thats not sci fi or robots.

Bubblegum Crisis was great. Its why I am on the kick for old anime.
Tank Police was ok, wish it was longer. MADOX was a weird OVA.
I do have Appleseed and M88. I'll give them a watch next. I am not sure I want to do the long haul of Macross yet.

Macross sucked me in, ngl. It's cheesy and melodramatic but the music is p good and the animation is charming. Definitely more will they wont they melodrama than sci fi tho
