I love One Piece but was totally prepared for this to suck based on the trailers. I'm still skeptical but I'm glad if it succeeds. I might even watch it with my girlfriend, she hasn't seen any OP stuff yet. Which is probably another important purpose of the show - at 1000+ episodes/chapters, OP is very difficult to get into for new readers. The show could potentially help bridge that. Though I would guess that it would need like 10 seasons to actually catch up to the manga..

The show covered a fair bit of ground in just 8 episodes while still remaining pretty faithful to the original. It's condensed and stuff is cut out and skipped to serve that purpose but other than that they remain pretty accurate to the show. It's clear the creators weren't allowed to frick with it very much.
