wtf how does this show still print so much seethe from both ends. The only thing closest to this phenomenon I remember is when goblin slayer and shield hero had hordes defending and denouncing them over r*pe / meetoo
Mushoku Tensei is an amazing continual seethe generator because, unlike Goblin Slayer and especially Shield Hero, MT has enough good elements to where both weebs and even normie seeming people I've talked to IRL are willing to look past the degenerate nature of it. The only other show I can think of in the same category is Made in Abyss, except I think MT is more popular and more explicit.

>MT has enough good elements to where both weebs and even normie seeming people I've talked to IRL are willing to look past the degenerate nature of it.
The comments alone in this post illustrate this. Opinions are split. There are people who agree with OP, underscoring that there are great elements and that it's ruined by the pedoshit, and then there is an insurmountable amount of cope.
It's not defending, it's just not making it a dealbreaker. Not saying it's a better story because it includes that, more than it's still a good story despite it.
Here we arrive at the core issues: weebs have such a low bar for quality that any Japan-made slop with an inkling of attention in any other part of the product will make it a stand-out. Have you ever wondered why anime review aggregators like MyAnimeList have such a high score for shows on average?
>people I've talked to IRL are willing to look past the degenerate nature of it.
I have an anecdote for this. When MT was airing, I had an acquaintance who introduced it to me and swore this was a good show. As he continued to explain to me the merits, it continued to grow on me as to why the frick this show has supplanted into the minds of so many people
Schizo theory: we are also talking about an animation industry that built up for the purpose of selling merchandise. This is why robot shows were so popular early on: they served as advertisements for toys. The modern day product is dakimakura covers and figurines. Here, I did the heavy lifting for you: all of these figurines are official and retail for >$150. Normies don't buy these. Otakus who self insert and jack off to their musings do. I wonder which audience is catered to more by the vapid, transparent fanservice prevalent in MT This is also why despite Anno's musings about deconstructing the robot genre away from toy advertisements, Evangelion made it all back through character merch, and I daresay popularized the tactic.

I do NOT like muscle women
Note that women with muscles isn't the same thing as anime muscle women. One is real and grounded in female anatomy.

Anime women are all over the place, the one posted above looks like a woman. Anime men on the other hand always look like boys.

Weeb can't believe that someone doesn't like p-dophiles
Weeb has no counterargument. This is a very common occurence for MT proponents
