Gundam seems like an autism magnet, which is probably why I can't get into it. I'd expect standardized mechs since you know they're in the military and not a fashion show.

Gundam is a product of its time since creator Tomino had all these hard sci-fi ideas but the producers wanted to sell toys so there had to be compromises. The OG Gundam is very obviously not a military vehicle but if you get used to the Gundam look then there's no denying how some designs like the Freedom and Unicorn are baller af. I maintain that the writing and worldbuilding for Gundam is actually pretty good sci-fi and I've always loved the more industrial designs like the Zaku.

Nowadays there's plenty more mech shows to choose from if you want industrial. Also mecha in general is a magnet for autism.
