The writer of cowboy bebop is a foid who writes a lot of trans character like every of her anime has a trans. To understand who she is, she made a whole anime where a girl fails in love to a big dog. She is very pro lgbt and she is ultra western hole. She don't view her self as Asian and don't create shit that catering to Asian. All her anime was a flop in Japan. Space dandy is cowboys with blues and trans characters (if you spend to much time in space you grow titty and lose pipi) then she makes anime about foid and dogs (probably most Japanese anime of her) then she does samurai with hip hop where main protagonist is Korean like frick that's ultra anti Japan. Next is space dandy

By what metric? From what I read Cowboy Bebop is a very well regarded and decently popular anime in both Japan and the West, although obviously not as popular as something like Dragonball or One Piece or whatever.

For Japan cowboy bebop was just parody of Lupin 4th (anime that is outside Japan only in froglandia is popular and Armenia “Arsene Lupin” Arden is popular Armenian name) like I was not long ago in France and seen stickers of Lupin and guys wearing Lupin hoodie

It probably is more popular in the West (due to being seen as a gateway anime), but I can't really find anything on the internet about there being any sort of stark difference between its popularity in Japan and the West.
