I am no longer diametrically opposed to anime as I have come to know that I've always hated anime in a similar way to my hatred of video games (I hate them because they are a waste of time and often times suck) and that hatred hasn't stopped me from playing video games. Perhaps I'll even watch an anime at some point soon. Are there any new anime (past few seasons) that have been worthwhile?

anime where the protagonist has to struggle to get what he wants and falls into deep depressions while doing so

even better when time travel is involved (steins gate, re zero)

Shield Hero, but the Light Novel only. There you see how fricked the first episode leaves him.

Gurren Lagann the MC in the early parts struggles hard.

Zeta Gundam, Kamilla has severe issues and autism. Can get into this one quick if you watch the recap movies for the original Gundam.

Paranoia Agent is more down to earth and about PTSD/Anxiety. More trippy at times.

Doesn't Quite fit but might be in the same vein:

SSSS.Gridman the antagonist struggles with depression which leads to the events in the show.

Going through this is funny and tells me how much I end up watching happy shit.
