Twilight was probably the most popular book series for young women 10-15 years ago. Its plot was as the meme described, but with the genders flipped. It was derided as women nonsense. Now that anime with nonsense premises (essentially like Twilight but for guys) is popular, can guys reflect on why series that are basically self-insert wish fulfillment are so popular.

Its obvious why it was popular, it was just hypocritical (women nonsense as you say). When its directed at women, its a successful best-selling series, when its directed at men, its regarded as some trashy garbage for self-insert incel losers. See also: 50 Shades of Grey.
