Hello friends it is me Chapose, as you can see from my profile picture. I know some of you thought I'd been taken by truck-kun and there wouldn't be an anime post this week but I am alive; I just got too into my third rewatch of Kiss x Sis.
It's in such a weird place. It's not bad, but it's not good. There's not quite enough car/vehicle content to make it a vehiclesperg anime and the episodes are all one shots with no continuous plot. When the car chases do happen it's fantastic, especially if you're into 90s japscrap. There's an ep where they swap an 86 v4 RZV 2 stroke into a 60s Subaru r2. Gearhead kino
The soundtrack is a neat little time capsule of 90s Japan, but yeah, it's not catchy or memorable. Def a comfy series I'll watch more of, it's nice that everything is low stakes. The scooter lady is a great character too, cracked up irl a few times.
If they had consistent focus on cars like in the 2nd ep it would be an absolute banger. Shakotan Boogie was just nonstop cars and it ruled.
The trans character is just a typical anime trap, they pass 100% so imo it's just anime being degen as usual.
Dungeon Meshi Good, really well animated, consistent with plot, looking forward to the next 12 episodes.
Chained Soldier Snoozefest, static backgrounds, mid fights, and why the frick would you animate an ecchi and pull out good shit.
Tales of Wedding Rings Better than chained soldier but meh, why does this have a S2? Please just frick already. Shinto Abe is disappointed.
Maho Ako Great Adaptation of an ecchi.
Metallic Rouge Started strong but wtf after episode 4. It has style, an almost good sound track, neat premise, and I'd rather be on United Airlines Flight 93.
Moonlit Fantasy one of my favorite Isekai, does have a bit of a weird pacing issue, but that exists in the manga. World building is good, they made a good choice in S1 of skipping the two other heros.
Synduality Noir I'm a whore who watches anything with mechs, and this is really good. Like it has no reason to be as good as it is, and despite the generic use of some tropes is really good. I'll probably buy the game as soon as player reviews are out and doesn't scream Dragons Dogma 2.
Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern I've only seen two episodes it didn't catch me. Its gay, like really homosexual. Factor that into your interest or disinterest.
Non-seasonals:
You're Under Arrest Comfy police show, its missing a few details that would make it remember like Patlabor or more obscure shows like Bubblegum Crisis were it strokes the right tism. I'm in it for the long haul.
Jashin Dropkick More insane nonsense, now sponsored by random Japanese towns and Hatsune Miku.
Votoms A mecha that has been forgotten to time. I wish they left out the space magic voodoo, its one of the best Real Robot series. The 2010s CGI shit is some of the best modern CGI mecha. A lot of old school mecha mechanical details with crisp CG.

more obscure shows like Bubblegum Crisis
Christ, I can still remember when there was basically nobody who hadn't seen it and it was considered a classic
Agreed with the pacing issues on Tsukimichi. I was hoping that S2 would be about the other characters as they cut them out of S1, but after a few episodes they forgot and it went back to The Makoto Show. Hopefully the second cour is better.
Agreed with Synduality too - although I have a sneaking suspicion it's gonna end with Noir saving the world through idolshit which I really don't care for.

I think it's closest to VOTOMS or Titanfall given the size of the mechs - an S1 stands around 8 metres, while an S½ is just over human sized, but there's no one series it's trying to be - there's a bit of Armored Core, a bit of Macross, some Gundam, and probably several others I can't even think of right now

Anyway this week was decent.
Finished Apothecary Diaries, and it ended with confirmation that S2 is in production!
Finished Slow Life which was ok. Not as comfy as S1, but not bad by any means
Finished Firefighter Daigo. It had dragged a bit at the start of the second cour but it's hit its stride again and ended strong
Finished Tales of Wddding Rings which was mediocre even for an ecchi show, which is a shame because it had more potential but never capitalised on it. Then again I might be asking too much of a harem isekai
Solo Leveling continues to go very hard love from Kazakhstan. A-1 have been on a roll the last 5 years and as much of a shame as it is to have to see this show and get a glimpse of what Ragna Crimson might have been, as least we've got this show
Finished My Cheat Skill Makes Me Overpowered which was neat. Not as good as Kagejitsu S1, but better than S2. Dannoura really developed and got a lot more likeable over the series
Got about halfway through decided sleep is for the weak and finished Ancient Magus Bride S2 cour 2, which is good stuff
Frieren is finally finished which is extra incentive for me to finish my work fast tomorrow. I reckon I can just about get through it before Tomozaki S2 finishes and I can sit down for that too. Sorry Mob Psycho S2, not this week
Watched the My Happy Marriage OVA which was cosy AF, it was a nice ending for the series

It's pretty good tbh. Daigo is a bit of a wunderkind, but there's a nothing superhuman about it, just him being ridiculously competent for a human, and they do stick to regular techniques (or more experimental but still possible stuff with Company M)

Wedding Rings would be so much better if the protagonist was a normal guy instead of the standard harem turbovirgin and the plot was more about him managing the girls' affections, maybe a couple do actually dislike him instead of "oh no I can't accept him well actually it's 30 minutes since I met him so now I can" and he has to win them over or something.
But that probably wouldn't be "anime" enough to sell in glorious nippon

He sort of had to do that for the Elf,
Yeah but that was what, one episode? Two? Certainly "I don't actually like the guy I'm supposed to marry to save the world" wasn't part of any of their plots, once their introductions are done they're just generic supportive and totally in love with him.

Moeblob is a weather pattern. Much like rain or sleet or hail or storm, it can Moeblob.
Ever been caught in a moeblob? Saw a guy's eyes move so far apart they were almost in his ears.
A woman's nose has been missing for months.
Not a single individual that has be in a moeblob has a chin any longer.

I think the sound track is its weak area. If it had a solid sound track it'd be remembered like Patlabor
I also think more focus on automotive tism would have been another way of being rembered.
I am finding my watch through is comfy, it fills a nice niche.
Most interesting part is the trans character is handled surprisingly well for an early 90s anime?
