Didnt watch anything new this week either. Last season was kinda whack, not much I wanna see, and the stuff I wanted to see turned out mid. Hope this season will be better.

Finished Now and Then, Here and There. Props to the team for being the only anime I've seen brave enough to animate an actual full-on naked peepee - Gainax could never. I wasn't a huge fan of Shu. It makes sense because he is literally a child, but after seeing first hand the horrors of war, his "don't worry, everything will be ok!" speech to Sara to try and console her after she's been repeatedly r*ped seems very out of place and it being validated sucks most of the pathos out of the series, but at least Sis is a bit more grounded and her intervention makes Sara's change more believable.
Watched Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. The animation is significantly better than the previous film, as is the story and the characters and the... you get the point. For some reason all the rips I could find had terrible audio mixing so the voices were really quiet while the music and sound effects were too loud if the voice was normal.
One thing I'm not clear on is why, if vampires feed on humans, they would want to go into space to begin with - no matter how cool the cathedral rockets look.
Watched Your Name. I can see why it was popular with normies, it's cute. The reveal towards the end was really well done.
Watched Paprika. Excellent movie that takes full advantage of the medium to do the kind of dream sequences and reality-bending that would be difficult for something working around actors. I've seen people say Inception ripped it off but aside from the main plot device being a machine that fiddles with dreams it's really not that similar.
Watched Panzer Dragoon which is bad. The plot is nonsense, the characters paper thin, and it doesn't do any justice to the games. Literally the only good thing about it is that it's over fast.
Watched Metropolis. !followers if you haven't seen it, you absolutely should. It's based on a manga by the OG Osamu Tezuka. While the manga predates Astro Boy, Madhouse took a lot of animation cues from that and it's absolutely gorgeous. Good mix of cel and 3d animation too - the 3d is noticeable but not awful. I'm a sucker for art deco megacities too which helps.
Watched Genocidal Organ, which feels very , or Ghost Recon The voice acting is surprisingly good, the English, Georgian, and Czech actually sounded native rather than being done by a Japanese person. I need to pick up the novel to see how it stacks up, apparently it was well received.
Also watched Seraph of the End. Yuuichiro is a complete idiot, and Shinoa is a fricking saint to put up with him instead of letting him die to his own hotheadedness. The animation on most of the fights is really good at least. Probably won't bother with S2 because I can already tell exactly where it's going. Shinoa best girl not just because she's great but also
Watched the Wish Upon the Pleiades ONA, which is an absolute masterclass in storytelling. Gainax get through an entire arc in just 4 5-minute episodes, with each episode having its own distinct story too.
Continuing the Gainax trend, watched three epsodies of He is my Master which is absolute trash so I dropped it. You can tell Gainax were short on cash when they begrudgingly made it.
Following the child soldiery of NaTHaT I've decided to watch Shiki for some lighter entertainment If you don't know anything about it, I recommend going in blind. If you know the basic outline (or are pretty quick at figuring things out), it's interesting to see the innocent mistakes the townspeople make.
Also started Armor Hunter Mellowlink which is another classic 80s action anime.

Paprika was kino and I was very drunk when I watched it so I feel like I could watch it for the first time again if I wanted too.

Paprika is good on a rewatch even if you know what's going to happen, Tokyo Godfathers (also by Satoshi Kon) is even better on a rewatch.
