Weekly Anime post 48

It's been exactly over 7 days since the last weekly post from Clowncuck so I'm making it now

I started steins;gate it's pretty solid, surprisingly the english voice over may be better than the original which from I understand is rare

still gotta watch the new Konosuba movie, though the amount of pedos in the fan base is pretty gross (darkness best girl btw)

My quest to get through Gundam continues. ![](/images/16599896099919975.webp)

I finished G Gundam and have concluded it is dope as frick. I mainly stuck around for the over the top silliness, but the generally slow moving plot really popped off and became engaging towards the very end.

I finished Unicorn too but have mixed feelings about it. The production values were solid, and the fight scenes and designs were great. My favorite was the episode where Neo Zeon attacks Earth directly since it reminded me of 8th MS Team. The writing and dialogue throughout the show is pretty rough though. Aside from his obsession with Mineva, Banana-ger can be summed up as a character by that one scene from Kung Pow Enter the Fist. “Killing is bad, and wrong. There should be a stronger word for killing like… badong.” I didn’t get the point of Ensign hitting-the-griddy either. Did everyone just forgive him at the end for all his horrible actions?

Unicorn’s Newtype stuff was trippy af, and I’m not sure how to feel about them overall. I don’t mind the mindscrew stuff since it’s kind of interesting, but it’s annoying when Newtype abilities turn into plot armor as a substitute for actual piloting skill. The fights in 8th MS Team, for example, are much more interesting than the silly Newtype beam spam you see in some series. It’s also hard to take Gundam seriously when they angst poetic about Newtypes being the “future of humanity” since people with psychic powers aren’t real. It doesn’t actually mean anything, unlike stories set around war and politics.

Maybe I need to try a realer real robot series.

I also watched the Narrative and Hathaway movies. I heard people disliked Narrative, but I thought it was a great blend of characterization and action. Meanwhile people liked Hathaway, but I thought it was kind of odd. Maybe it needs the sequels they’re making for the story to really make sense.

Im giving up on Iron Blood Orphans. I tried a few more episodes, but the characters are too annoying.

I’ve also started SEED and Victory. SEED is really good so far. My only complaint is that character faces aren’t drawn well at all. It’s too early for me to have an opinion on Victory. I just want to see what all the fuss is about there.

In other news, I recently learned there was a Zone of Enders anime. I remember liking the games so I should give it a try.

G Gundam

It gets a lot of flak in Japan but its a seriously good show.

but it’s annoying when Newtype abilities turn into plot armor as a substitute for actual piloting skill.

This is some of the motivation of what happens in Narrative. They put the OP Psychic armor back and force everyone to be good pilots. Like in Victory which happens after Narrative and it forces Uso to not solely rely on his newtype powers.

Meanwhile people liked Hathaway, but I thought it was kind of odd.

Hathaway has one of the best urban combat scenes of any anime. None of them ever touch how destructive it is for people dealing with it on the ground. Other than that its a slow start on the Trilogy about one of the worst characters in the UC Timeline. Kamille should have let him drown.

Narrative

I found Narrative better than most of the reviews have it, but its big thing about destroying the Psychoframe tech is needed for anything after Unicorn to work.

Im giving up on Iron Blood Orphans.

I found it overrated, didn't care for any of the characters, I found some of the blatant shit pulled out at the end of series to seriously break my suspension if disbelief. It does have good smashy smash fights at least.

SEED

As long its the remaster its actually rather good, the designs are great, the cast is actually well done. There are a few moments of whiney bullshit but they make sense. Murrue Ramius is a total hottie. The biggest complain about SEED is the beam spam.

SEED Destiny on the other hand sucks even with the remaster.

Victory

At the rate you are going you are going to finish Victory before I will. So, far I am enjoying it. It picks up a lot when Uso and Shahkti stop trying to frick off back to their house. When you get a chance you should watch F91, its the prequel ish to Victory. It really just setups up some of the stuff related to why Zanscare is what it is, On the other hand its a 50 episode series turned into an hour and a half movie.

Maybe I need to try a realer real robot series.

Most of them at this point have some level of bullshit but: Patlabor, Votoms, Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01. Macross is as real robot as Gundam is at this point. There is magical singing but its got solid mech fights.

If you want battle armor: Bubblegum Crisis and its sequel Bubblegum Crash.
