I'm converting to Atheism, what are your main spiritual books that you read to get a better understanding of it?

What are some of your main sources of religious or spiritual literature to help me understand thinking from a materialist perspective?

I've always thought of Atheism as "Don't think about God until you are on your death bed and then pray reverently to try to comprehend the unknown as it is staring you right in the face" is this the case?

I mean, non-existence is kind of a terrifying concept for me, how to you rationalize believing in non-existence of consciousness when facing death?

its more like: "hear a bunch of fairy tales growing up and naturally categorize the shit in church alongside them".

wut? non-existence is the least terrifying thing possible. plato mentions this in the phaedo, since you were looking for sources.

You do understand that all religions represent unconscious symbols that represent aspects of nature?

Is that an atheist perspective?

Well the first thing we tried to comprehend and form symbols around were planets and nature, to try to explain things we couldn't comprehend or understand.

We view something as spiritual because it follows and reflects this symbolism and brings us back to a time when we based our understanding of the world based on the planets and nature. Even modern day or newer religions such as Christianity are nature worship. There are parallels in every religion, do you know how many religions have a Noah in the Ark flood myth, even tower of Babel myths are common.

It's because it reflects aspects of the unconscious psyche.

That seems like an overly simplified view of religion that even I as an atheist find insulting.

But also this conversation reminds me of talking to bussy boy so imma cut out now.
