Reddit didn't ban /r/Jailbait for the content or because of the CNN coverage or any campaigns to brigade the subreddit;
They banned it because /u/ViolentAcrez tried to hand the subreddit over to violent misogynists who ran subreddits about raping & beating women.

I never tracked down the "Spez gave VA an award" narrative. I know a lot of awards like Bellwether or Most Inciteful were automated.
I do know that "Spez was a moderator of /r/Jailbait" was misleading - at that time, people were automatically added as mods when "invited". He left ASAP
